Research Overview
Research in my lab encompasses the discovery, development and evaluation of biologics, particularly monoclonal antibodies, and small molecule drugs for snakebite envenoming and emerging viral threats.
We use antibody display technologies to identify novel antibodies that are then tested for specificity and neutralising efficacy using functional assays.
Our aim is to develop new therapeutic and diagnostic tools to alleviate the burden of Neglected Tropical Diseases and emerging viruses.
Current Teaching
AY2025/26:
BIOL100, 200, 300 - Academic tutoring
BIOL122 - Anatomy and Tissue Structure (module organiser)
BIOL231 - Employability Skills
BIOL281 - Clinical Biochemistry
BIOL314 - Molecular and Biochemical Parasitology
BIOL387/387a - Biosciences Research Project (3rd year lab project supervisor and deputy module organiser)
BIOL466/469/470 - MSc/MSci lab project supervisor
PhD Supervision Interests
I would be happy to hear from prospective self-funded students at MSc by Research level or PhD level interested in antibody discovery, toxinology, and biologics development. Projects could involve discovering novel monoclonal antibodies using display technologies, then testing their specificity and neutralising activity in functional assays to support the development of new therapeutics and diagnostics for envenoming and emerging viral threats. For students interested in antibody discovery for other disease areas, projects can be developed jointly with a suitable second supervisor in another disease area, enabling similar approaches to be applied to fields such as cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, and beyond.
